Why are community health workers (CHWs) important?

CHWs are an integral part of the health workforce to achieve health equity. Their lived experiences and insights into the communities they serve allow them to build trusting, supportive relationships that provide social support and connect individuals and families to needed health and social services. CHWs also help health systems provide culturally responsive services informed by clients’ and communities’ unique assets and needs.
