Why are community health workers (CHWs) important?

CHWs are important because they can assist people in navigating complex health and social systems that might prevent them from achieving optimal health. CHWs can do this by sharing critical health information in a digestible manner, leading to life-saving outcomes, especially in under-resourced communities. CHWs can address cultural, language, social, and other barriers that can prevent individuals from accessing quality healthcare.
